so Thor is dead... that sucks! I haven't been following the comic AT ALL, but isn't he some sort of mythological figure that suddenly was some average dude from the Wolverine project who lost his mind? (which sucks even harder) WHO killed him off for fuck's sake?

OK, Ripper first: You are talking about the "Ultimates" Thor, which is an alternate reality to the Marvel Universe, and yeah, they are now saying that that Thor was some kind of Super-Soldier or Weapon X or something. I don't read it, I don't know the details. But they have not actually confirmed anything yet, either.

The maintstream Marvel Universe Thor has been all kinds of effed-up. First his personality got shot when Odin seperated his "humanity" from him to form another being, which spiralled into this overwrought, overly-long, poorly written alternate timeline wherein Thor took over Earth and killed off a bunch of heroes and etc. Marvel mysteriously couldn't understand why the story wasn't selling, but they finally pulled the writer off the book, and reset it back to before Thor went nuts and into the prime timeline. Good. Then they decided Thor didn't "fit in"--I loved it when Quesada or someone said he "didn't fit in with the Avengers"--oh, yeah, 'cause its [i]only because of him and Loki that there is an Avengers [img]graemlins/whatever.gif[/img] --the Marvel U, so they started Ragnarok, Thor ripped out his eyes, helped Sutur detroy Asgard and kill all the Asgardians and "went to sleep".

Yeah.

Seriously.

Oh, he pulled off Loki's still-living head and carried it on his belt, which was probably the coolest damn thing he has done since before "Heroes Reborn".

So the latest word was that they wanted to "re-invent" the book with some corporate entity finding Thor's hammer and using it to power some kind of "New Asgard" on Earth, and that teenage humans would develop Asgardians powers.

As for the other thing, the same guy Marvel hired to kill Thor wrote a BRB mini-series, which is just about wrapping up...in which he apparetnly kills off BRB.
